Beach of the Week: Bolonia Beach, Spain
Travel
Each week we bring you one of the best beaches in the world as our beach of the week. This week’s best beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in Spain.
BEACH: Beach, Tarifa, Andalucia, Spain
WHERE: Only 20km from Tarifa, Bolonia Beach sits along the breathtaking Andalusian coastline, luring in locals and nature-loving tourists alike with its uniquely unspoilt landscape. It’s nestled picturesquely between the mountains of San Bartalomé, the Sierra de la Plata and an enormous sand dune.
WHY: If your time in Southern Spain has been a whirlwind of mojitos and bullfights, this beach is the ideal respite from it all…with a twist. Boasting 4km of supple sand and calming crystal waters, Bolonia Beach also includes the majestic Roman Ruins of Baelo Claudio. For those prepared to hike up the sand dune, you shall be greeted with stunning panoramic views of the local area and the distant African coastline (just make sure to keep your mouth and eyes closed when the winds pick up!).
HOW: Easy as pie. If you’ve rented a car (which we highly suggest), simply take the N-340 from Tarifa and turn left when you see the sign for Bolonia Beach.
H2O TONE: Birdseye Turquoise
SAND TONE: Café con leche
STAY: Hotel Dos Mares. Keeping with the laid back kite surfer vibe of Tarifa, this small hotel offers a chilled out and intimate atmosphere with ocean views, authentic Spanish décor, and a full complimentary breakfast that will have you coming back for seconds…and thirds.
WHEN: From May through to December.
